Book chapters do not fall within the scope of the HEFCE Policy for Open Access in the Post-2014 Research Excellence Framework which only covers journal articles and conference proceedings with an ISSN, but you can always create metadata (bibliographical description) records for them on RaY.
However, HEFCE has stated that additional credit may be given in the next REF if we make books, data and other forms
of output not listed in the policy, open access, so you may wish to upload a
file of your chapter.
There are copyright issues with this. Unlike journal articles, publishers
do not tend to have standard self-archiving policies for making book chapters
open access and practices vary widely. Some will allow the uploading of one
chapter from an authored or edited book but others allow nothing as they view
it as a threat to their revenues. For example Routledge allows the
uploading of the author accepted manuscript of a chapter 18 months after the date
of publication, but Wiley will not grant permission at all.
If you would like to upload your book chapter it’s worth
checking the terms and conditions of your licence to publish agreement, but permission
often has to be negotiated on a case-by-case basis directly with the publisher.
Contact RaY if you need any assistance
in uploading your chapters and obtaining permission from publishers.
